This is the shell that produces the famous Tahitian black pearls.
Product Highlights:
- The Stone: Black lip oyster shell is the colorful nacre from the large Pinctada margaritifera mollusk. Its inner surface shifts between charcoal, deep green, purple, and bronze, and is the original source of black pearls.
- History: Polynesians have carved this shell into tools and jewelry for over 2,000 years. After being harvested nearly to extinction by Western traders, the species was saved in the 1960s by conservation and pearl farming.
- The Belief: It promotes inner calm, intuition, and protection. Built like microscopic brick and mortar, its mineral layers lock together under pressure, making it 3,000 times more shatter resistant than normal rock.
