A pearl is what happens when a living animal turns an injury into a treasure.
Product Highlights:
- The Stone: White pearls form inside saltwater oysters when an irritant enters the shell. The animal coats it in nacre, layer by layer, until it becomes a sphere. Most come from the Akoya oyster of Japan or the silver lip oyster of Australia.
- History: Pearls have been worn for nearly 8,000 years. Pliny the Elder called them “the richest merchandise of all,” and Julius Caesar restricted their use to the ruling class. For most of history, finding one took years of diving in dangerous waters.
- The Belief: It supports calm, clarity, and patience. A single round saltwater pearl takes between two and seven years to form inside the animal, one microscopic layer at a time. There is no shortcut.
Our pieces are made with natural gemstones; slight variations in color, size, and pattern may occur.
