- The Stone: Hematite with a mirror-bright, metallic silver-grey surface. It is one of the heaviest stones used in jewelry, so it sits with real weight on the wrist from the first wear.
- History: That red powder is ochre, the oldest pigment humans ever used, going back more than 100,000 years. People are said to have ground Hematite to mark themselves before battle and to paint on cave walls. It is one of the first things we ever used to leave a mark.
- Meaning: Tradition tied the stone to Mars, the god of war, and warriors are said to have worn it into battle for protection.
